MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3, commonly known as MP3, is the most popular lossy audio format on the internet. QMP has built-in support for MP3 playback using the Xaudio decoding engine.
In addition to QMP's built-in MP3 decoder, several other MP3 decoding options are available for QMP via plugins:
- mpg123 - based on an old version of Ota-chan's mpg123 (translation) sources. This plugin is fairly outdated today.
- BASS - based on un4seen's BASS library. This is a fairly new plugin developed by Paul. There's also an older BASS-based plugin developed by Tokelil available at QPlug-ins.
- MAD - based on Underbit's MPEG Audio Decoder.
Support for other MP3 decoders can be added via the Winamp input plugins manager or by using DirectShow filters
